POLICE have named a man who died following a serious collision with a van on one of the main roads into Southend yesterday.
Raja Khan, aged 60 from Earls Hall Avenue, Southend was killed as he crossed Victoria Avenue, just outside St Mary's Church at 1pm. He was struck by a white Mercedes Sprinter van.
Mr Khan was treated by ambulance crews, which included Essex Air Ambulance but died at the scene. The 34-year-old van driver from East London was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He has been released on police bail until October 22 while police enquiries continue.
Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision. They are asked to contact the Road Policing unit at Rayleigh on 0300 333 4444.
