A MAN has been bailed by police following a serious road crash in Sutton Road, Southend which left a woman and a young boy suffering from serious injuries.

The crash, which involved a white panel van, a black Peugeot Sport, a silver Volvo Vectra and a grey Fiat Punto left Sutton Road closed for six hours yesterday.

A 68-year-old woman from Hockley was taken to Royal London Hospital with serious injuries and is in a critical condition. A two-year-old boy was taken to Southend Hospital and was later transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

A 66-year-old man from Southend was also taken to Southend hospital along with a 64-year-old women from Southend who is being treated for a broken elbow and a broken foot.

A 55-year-old man from Rayleigh was arrested on suspicion dangerous driving. He has been bailed to December 15.
