A CHIROPRACTOR who is facing allegations of sexual misconduct has also been accused of giving unnececessary X-rays and telling patients they needed more treatment than they needed.

The General Chiropractic Council is now investigating a number of allegations made against Stuart Lawrence, 33, owner of the Body Active Chiropractic clinics, in Main Road, Hockley, and Rushbottom Lane, Thundersley.

Dr Lawrence, who is currently under suspension by the council, is accused of making comments and sending sexually motivated e-mails to an employee, referred to as Ms A.

He is also accused of providing treatment to her, which was allegedly sexually motivated.

In addition, the council says it is investigating claims Dr Lawrence encouraged patients to pay for treatment that was “not clinically justified”. It is also claimed the chiropractor subjected patients to unnecessary X-rays and did not adhere to safety guidelines on radiation.

A series of complaints, published by the council following an investigation, said Dr Lawrence sent Ms A suggestive messages via Facebook, and, while driving her home in July 2008, he is said to have touched her inappropriately.

Then while attending a World Veteran Athletics event in Slovenia with Ms A he is alleged to have behaved in a sexual way in his hotel room.

He is said to have subjected Ms A to intimate examinations to improve her pelvic floor muscles. An incident of sexual touching, on September 16, 2009 was said to have happened without Ms A’s consent.

It is claimed another patient was asked to pay for “excessive” blocks of treatment over six weeks, which included up to three sessions a week, and were not clinically justified.

The chiropractor is alleged to have X-rayed “all or most” of his patients at their initial consultation, but had failed to ensure each X-ray was justified and had not complied with ionising radiation exposure regulations.

Dr Lawrence is also alleged to have advertised on adult websites where he identified himself as docstu29 and said he was seeking “discreet fun” and people with “various fetishes”.

Previous allegations of sexual misconduct against the chiropractor, were dropped by police in February.

Dr Lawrence has strongly denied the allegations. He was not available for comment yesterday.

The hearing will take place from October 4 to 8.
