FOUR kitesurfers had to be rescued by the coastguard after they got tangled up at Shoebury boom.

The men got their kite lines caught on the sea structure in strong winds during what was the highest tide in ten years.

The quartet were spotted by a member of Southend’s foreshore team as the group attempted to free their entangled kites while they were still in the water.

The kitesurfers were blown across the sea at East Beach by a strong gust of wind, and got their lines caught at the edge of the boom as the tide continued to rise.

The Thames Coastguard asked their colleagues in Southend to keep watch on the men until the lifeboat was able to bring them back to shore.
