A six-year-old Elvis impersonator got the chance to demonstrate her hip swivels to the singer’s widow during an appearance on the BBC One Show on Friday.

Ashleigh Sheehan was picked up from Richmond Avenue Primary School in Shoebury, and whisked off to the BBC studios in London.

Ashleigh, of West Road, Shoebury was given just one day’s notice she had been chosen to appear on the show where she met Priscilla Presley.

The youngster took part in a European Elvis impersonator contest in Blackpool in January and her nan, Debra Sheehan, 46, also of West Road, believes producers got her details from the event.

She said: “She’s always loved Elvis. Even when she was just two she would wiggle and dance to Elvis songs.

“On my birthday she got up and sang Elvis songs in the pub. She just loves him. She likes a lot of other old music too and often listens to my music.”

Ashleigh, who also took dressed as Elvis in Canvey’s Got Talent contest, has been encouraged by another Elvis impersonator, Patrick Burn.

Mr Burn, 49, of Ilmington Drive, Basildon has been a finalist in the European Elvis Championships for the last five years and last year came second.

He first met Ashleigh when he was performing at the Shagor restaurant in Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff.

He said: “Her gran brought her in and asked if she could join in. She was a bit shy at first, but she sang with me and then eventually plucked up the courage to sing on her own.

“She’s very good for a six-year-old and has all the right moves. It’s great that young people are interested in Elvis because it will help to keep his memory alive.”
